Marathi Manus — Jaaga

Images of Dombivili — in the news — a North Indian taxi-driver gets the living daylights beaten out of him, while his taxi is destroyed by activists (read; goonda mowalis) belonging to the Maharashtra Nav Nirman Sena.

Dear Raj — pray, listen — give me a chance to change your mind –

Maharashtra is a great state — and its people; magnificent and kind, upright and honest. In the form of Bombay, Maharashtra has given India, its economic headquarters. Agreed. Remember however, that this prosperity was not born, merely on the basis of the potent Marathi blood. No. When people from the south and the north, and the west and the east — all worked together, in brotherhood and love, the greatness of Maharashtra was enhanced — the glory of our great state, Maharashtra, belongs to not just the good people of the soil, but it is also the property of the rest of India who participated in its growth.

Let us not deny people from outside Maharashtra, their right to a shared prosperity. Remember, always, my brother — that we are a part of a larger entity — India. And the constitution says that every Indian has the right of dwell in any location of his choice and pursue prosperity and happiness. It would be unconstitutional to deny anyone this right. Consider for a moment, the thousands of people of Maharashtrian origin, residing currently in some other state of our vast nation — how do you expect them to be treated? Wouldn’t you feel your blood boil with a strange mix of fury and shame if images of these people being beaten up by the local people of that state started flashing in the news? Expect that feeling to have been evoked in the hearts of the good people of Uttar Pradesh over the senseless violence that has ensued in Dombivali and other regions of the Thane district and parts of Bombay after your speech.

After your speech — must make you really proud — and a little afraid. To wield that kind of power over the collective destinies of millions. Raj, please use this responsibility with great caution. The lives of many thousand men, women and children hang in the balance. It is not very late to make amends. Start fresh  — start with tolerance.

Remember, tolerance was something the great Chattrapati preached — I believe, we have forgotten — its not too late to remember.

Jai Maharashtra. Jai Hind.

sukant, you dont know what you’re talking about. all the slums in mumbai are because of people from north coming to mumbai. they hve also increased the crime rate and rate of rape in mumbai. if they are made to leave, mumbai will be a better palce to live.

Politics being the only reason for the entire fracass created by the Thackerey man….

Ok we understand that Mayavati ( demoness ) made the Juhu beach enlighten entire night allowing 1000’s of bhaiya’s and bhaiyani’s ( with due respect) to celebrate ‘CHATH POOJA’.
Who would have borne the consequences of any mishap / stampede / terrorist activity had to be pumped off at the sight ? – Nothing happened .. we dont want anything as such .. God forbid…
But could we be given the same liberty to celebrate the New Years Eve on Juhu Beach the entire night till dawn :) Politics is way too self centered for this….

Also, they made Maharashtra celebrate UP Diwas which wasnt reckoned in the UP itself .. another politic ballistic missile to shoot the army of unconsequential opposition.

In constrast , to firm his hold , the Thackerey man , took to harnessing the birth soil by asking 50% reservation in the housing constructions in the land of Mumbai … I guess which builder would not want to sell off his building if all the Maharashtrain’s were capable enough to buy it …

Did anybody think about the average Mumbaikar ? I bet nobody sits in Mumbai idle enough to pull out some unknow taxiwala and unleash the wrath of barbarism.

Its reasonable for the love Guru ( his frolicking young student cum Wife ) from UP to meet up the Thackerey man or the School children of a local school writing a letter to him to rekindle the benefactor of LOVE ….

Dear Raj,

You have lost your senses. Your stupid senseless speech didn’t even touch anyone’s heart. Worth mentioning – ‘Not even the people who belongs to MNS’. They just support you coz they have nothing else to do. Do you want Maharashtrians to get beaten up to hell in other states? As a Maratha, I pity on the poor North Indian Taxi driver who would curse this State and people like you for his lifetime. At least, you could have used your brain before speaking. Utter bullshit !

Amit – You could have made this post even more sensational by hitting it even more harder on Raj Thackeray ! Nice job :-)

NitinFebruary 29th, 2008 at 10:02 pm

@Amit..

Will better do a post on that… so pls check out…

if you really live in mumbai and understand the problems created by the massive influx of “our fellow brothers” who have left their states because they dont have hope there ( which the politicians of those states dont even find being ashamed of but have time to provoke Raj and create more controversies). Agree that anyone can come and sit but not (shit) in any state. Even the non marathi people will agree that they would like to have law abiding people (may be from any state) to come and stay in their neighborhood . When you see people who come from UP Bihar or any state and try to instill their rotten culture ( here I mean the lack of respect for women,no sense of following the law because there isnt none there ) saying that this happens in Bihar/UP or in that case their state and tell us that you have to get used to this , really you dont need Raj or Uddhav or anyone else to make your blood boil. When you see nice neighborhoods being infested with these pests and the nonmaharashtrian and asshole marathi politicians not doing anything (for vote banks) and not taking any action against them it really hurts.
What Raj has picked up is what we have seen happening in All corners of Mumbai/Pune Nashik and so on. Look at what has happened to Navi Mumbai.
I dont really care if I am labelled as pro Raj or any one but thta is not the point.
Its the matter of punishing the bad apples whether they are from UP/Bihar /Maharashtra or any where else so that other people who come will think before molesting a girl walking down the street in Mumbai that “ye sab idhar nahi chalega” . Ye Mumbai Maharashtra hai roji roti kamao shanti se raho kanoon idhar lagu hai.
think !

Amit…

Rightly said it brother! A sane secular man should know that Raj is just using this ‘marathi’ issue as a political gimmick. Me being a marathi guy, I feel pity on marathi people who enjoy beating other indian brothers. And worst part which is shameful that many educated marathi people fall for such gimmicks in the name of ‘pride’ for the cast. These ‘educated’ people should learn that any education which can not impart wiseness in an individual is useless.
India has lost so much, time and again, in the name of religion/casts. Aren’t the categories Hindu Vs Muslim, shiya Vs sunni, Open Vs OBC, Touchables Vs Untouchablesm, etc etc not enough for frenetic people to fight and abuse the Indian soil? So people are adding new categories UP Vs Mah, AP Vs Delhi….. ?
The world is fighting against financial doom and India is fighting against each other in so many categories. Vow!!! People are still not showing maturity to curb such misleading notions. This madness will not let a man to be human anymore.
Its time! Time to be human, time to work hard and contribute in India’s prosperity! Time to wake up!!!

- a ‘marathi’ indian!

gargiOctober 30th, 2008 at 8:34 am

HI ALL!

I have the thought in my mind that beating people in the name of religion or caste or in any case is not good for humanity. The city is good to maintain independence and freedom.

For growth we will to work in team and if we are free to choose different countries to work then why not one city in our country. Why it is so difficult to live in mumbai. The riots going on in our country is shamefull its barrier to growth. If we compare our country with other we are left behind with old thoughts. The result is nothing but a disaster.

So brothers save this Dream Land to become Death Valley!!!

Vijay patilDecember 12th, 2009 at 1:58 am

Maharashtra goldsmiths are best in there job and working in every part of India. Mathura the largest silver hub has thousands of Marathis. They are living here with full pride. Actually they have taken the place if the local one. Due to all this bullshit northindian politician will make this issue on top. Rajasthan also has lakhs of marathis because this state supply tonnes of jewellery to other states. Your act of beating northindians creating danger on marathis in north India. Be practical enough.

Vijay patilDecember 12th, 2009 at 3:18 am

Amit I appreciate your thinking. 3 years before Maharashtra was 2nd most economic strong state in India. Kolhapur 3rd most percapita income in whole country. Now Maharashtra bowed down to 6th state. It’s just because govt lost the main agenda. I solely appreciate that people like Amit won’t let Maharashtra down.
